Restructuring for larger skylight openings!

Cutting out rafters for larger skylights may seem like a daunting task, but with the right planning and expertise, anything is possible! -I SAY IT ALL THE TIME, PREP, PREP, PREP...The key is to carefully analyze the existing structure and come up with a strategic plan to ensure the integrity of the building is maintained. The thrill of problem-solving and overcoming obstacles is what keeps me passionate about what I do. I've done o many over the years I'm a big believer in over build, if plan says 2x8 throw in 2x10's or even 12's, we always go with 2x6 studs for your shaft walls, hit it with r-40 for insulation, I use to debate with another skylight installer, they said they were vertical walls so r-20...I say it's a ceiling of its open to the attic area so I stick with the r-40
I must admit, seeing the finished result was the ultimate highlight for me. The natural light pouring in through the new skylights created such a bright and inviting atmosphere.  It's moments like these that remind me why I chose this profession in the first place -
